Sheridan College Theater and Dance Department presents “American Idiot”

The Sheridan College Theater and Dance Department presents “American Idiot” at the WYO Theater Nov. 14 – 16 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at wyotheater.com or the WYO Theater Box Office and are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and military, and $5 for students.

Based on the iconic post-punk album of the same name by the band Green Day, this musical tells the story of three kids from a suburban town who are constantly reminded that they do not fit in and convince themselves the answer exists elsewhere.

According to Sheridan College theater instructor Aaron Odom, the themes of discontent explored in “American Idiot” are important today.

“In any age, there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction with any popular social or cultural convention,” explained Odom. “Rather than tell perceived malcontents to buck up and fall in line, it’s maybe worth considering the perspective of the dissatisfied.”

Written by Green Day vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and director Michael Mayer, the musical won two Tony Awards and a nomination for Best Musical. In 2011, its Broadway cast recording won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

This play has a parental advisory for sexual themes, strong language, some drug use, flashing lights and really loud music. The WYO Theater is located at 42 North Main Street in Sheridan, Wyoming.
