Sheridan College students compete in Wyoming SkillsUSA each year and consistently excel – this year was no different. Seventeen students received 13 total medals after the results were tallied at the final competition in Casper. In addition, the team also received the Runner-up High Point Chapter Award.
SkillsUSA prepares America’s high-performance workers and provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development.
In team competition, students Trevor Clark of Jordan, Mont., Keith Kinsinger of Gillette, Wyo. and Candice Ayres of Sheridan, Wyo. won gold in Automated Manufacturing, and Troy Replogle of Billings, Mont.; John Marrs of Whitewood, S.D. and Kyle Jerney of Sheridan, Wyo. took silver. In Welding Fabrication, Hayden Reed of Windsor, Colo., Justin Bailey of Sheridan, Wyo. and Hayden Burgess of Sheridan, Wyo. took home a bronze medal. In Additive Manufacturing, David Robbins of Sheridan, Wyo. and Jerney won gold while Ayres and Kayla Fischer of Billings, Mont. won silver.
Sheridan College students also won three gold, three silver and two bronze medals in individual competition. Gold medal winners included Eric Peter of Circle, Mont. in Carpentry; Garett Dixon of Lance Creek, Wyo. in Cabinet Making; and Edward Collins of Crowheart, Wyo. in Culinary. Silver medal winners included Taylor Chapin of Kemmerer, Wyo. in Carpentry; Devon Bedtka of Ten Sleep, Wyo. in Culinary and Keith Kinsinger of Gillette, Wyo. in CNC Technician. Bronze medal winners included Atticus Garrett of Buffalo, Wyo. in Carpentry and Justin Bailey of Sheridan, Wyo. in Welding.
All students and teams who won gold medals at the state level will go on to compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference June 24 through 28, 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky. According to Dean of Career and Technical Education Jed Jensen, students’ performance at SkillsUSA is an indication of the high quality of programs offered at Sheridan College.
“Our students’ incredible performance yet again demonstrates the high level of instruction we offer at Sheridan College in the career and technical education fields,” he said. “We are very proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to supporting them at the national competition in June.”
