Math Instructor and Math Center Coordinator
M.M. in Mathematics, University of South Carolina
B.A. in Elementary Education, Clemson University
Jennifer Nichols has taught at Sheridan College since the fall of 2016. She staffs and oversees the math center, a drop-in tutoring center for math located in the Whitney building, and teaches a variety of math courses including the Math for Elementary Teachers courses. Her goal in teaching and tutoring is to make math approachable and possible for students. She helps students see and build on their own foundational understanding of the “math world.” Students build knew knowledge connected to their own personal understanding and experiences so they can build confidence in their ability to analyze information, solve problems, use mistakes as an informative tool, and see their world in a new way.
Jennifer achieved a B.A. in Elementary Education at Clemson University in 2004. She stayed at home with her two daughters when they were little before returning to teaching in a private high school, teaching fifth grade math, and teaching at a local community college in South Carolina. She loved teaching college so much that she returned herself and earned a Master in Mathematics at the University of South Carolina. She was then able to transition to Sheridan, Wyoming for a chance to indulge in her passion of making math understanding attainable and less intimidating for the students here at NWCCD.
Jennifer has served on several governance committees at NWCCD and serves in the community as a home-school mother of two and serving the youth and women in her church group.
