Gwen believes her role as a nurse instructor is to guide the students, providing access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information. For students to learn how to think critically, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Therefore, she likes to give students access to hands-on activities and allow them adequate time and space to practice the skills to reinforce the lesson. She believes this creates an opportunity for individual discovery and concept formation in a safe, non-threatening environment.

Gwen started her medical career as a firefighter in 2003. She then obtained the following: E.M.T.B. certificate, Firefighter I & II, Fire Instructor I, Associate of Science in Paramedic, Associate Degree Nursing, ACLS/PALS Instructor, Master of Science in Nursing, Certified Emergency Nurse, and Certified Nurse Educator. Prior to these, Gwen held a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Gwen serves on the Curriculum and Outcomes Committee for the nursing program. She serves in the community as president of the County Critical Incident Stress Management Team, a member of the Campbell County Health (C.C.H.) H.E.A.R.T. Team and is an active Wyoming Nurses Association (W.N.A.) member. She is the Education Representative on the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.
