The Battle of Red Buttes | Candy Moulton
In celebration of American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, Sheridan College and the SC Native American Student Organization invite students and the public to a presentation by author, producer, and historian Candy Moulton this Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Whitney Center for the Arts, rm. 235.
Moulton will be screening “The Battle of the Red Buttes,” which she co-wrote and produced for the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. The film won First Place Professional Film from the Wyoming State Historical Society, was selected Best Short Documentary in the Venice (CA) Film Festival, won the Spur Award for Best Documentary Film from Western Writers of America, was a finalist for Best Native American Film and Best Short Documentary Film, in the Red Dirt Film Festival in Stillwater OK, and received the Gold Medallion in the Will Rogers Awards. She will also be discussing her recent book “Sacajawea: Mystery, Myth, and Legend.”
According to Moulton’s website, she has written fifteen Western history books, co-edited a collection of short fiction, and written, produced, and been a reenactor in several documentary films. Her books also include “Chief Joseph: Guardian of the People,” and “Everyday Life of the American Indians from 1800 to 1900.” Candy has been writing since high school, worked as a newspaper and magazine reporter and editor, and makes her home in Encampment, WY. The event is free and open to the public.
