Sheridan College will host Andrew Forsythe for an American Indian art lecture entitled “Beadwork Design and Techniques of Northern Plains Tribes” on April 22 at 6 p.m. in Whitney W-153. The program is free and open to the public.

Forsythe has been involved in Native American culture for over 35 years. He taught on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Sicangu Lakota Oyate, where he established close, lifetime friendships.

He has authored numerous pieces on Native American history and material culture, including his book “Focus on Feathers,” which is solely devoted to how to work with feathers as a medium in native art. His work has been used in museums across the country, including the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

Along with his work with feathers, Andrew has extensive experience with beading techniques, porcupine quillwork, and hide tanning using traditional methods.
