Your Success Matters

What is an Academic Advisor?

Sheridan College Instructor with Student.

Academic advisors provide intensive support through regular contact with future and/or current students helping them explore their academic interests, for instance:

  • Identify resources for additional information and support
  • Develop plans of study appropriate for their educational goals.
  • Make student referrals to other campus offices for assistance in academic, personal and career counseling, academic skills development, and financial aid.

When to Visit an Advisor?

Sheridan College Veteran's office with Sam Draznin.

Visiting an advisor is always a good idea. Especially when you have a question/concern about your career, major, or any personal issues you may have academically.

Other reasons to visit an advisor:

  • Planning a schedule for the next semester or create an academic plan for your major
  • Have questions about the registration process
  • Preparing to register for the next semester
  • Questions about college procedure and resources, such as “How do I drop or add classes?” or “Where can I get career information?”
  • Have an academic difficulty
  • Need guidance about personal issues that impact academic progress

Credit for Prior Learning

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) provides students the opportunity to receive course credit for demonstrated competence based on prior learning and experiences. CPL contributes to student success by shortening the time required to complete a credential while also saving the student money.

Campus Life

Get the most out of your college experience! There’s no better way than to live on campus.

Accepted students can complete a housing application and submit your deposit. Spaces fill up quickly, so we encourage you to apply early!
