Welding is the most common method of permanently joining metal parts. Welders use heat to combine metals, build structures, and perform repairs. Welding is used in numerous industries such as automobile manufacturing and repair, shipbuilding, mining operations, aerospace applications, energy and power operations, and other manufacturing activities. Sheridan College offers a nationally recognized welding technology program.
Our Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificate of Completion in Welding will provide you the necessary skills and instruction to enter the welding industry. Careers & Industry Outlook
The nation’s aging infrastructure will require the expertise of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers to help rebuild bridges, highways, and buildings. These workers also will be needed in manufacturing plants, such as those that produce metal products and machinery.

- Employment of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is projected to grow 2 percent from 2023 to 2033, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Curriculum & Outcomes
Associate of Applied Science Degree
The Welding Technology AAS Program prepares students for work in the field of welding technology. Building on the knowledge and skills gained in the Certificate program, students further develop their skills in the areas of print reading, welding symbols, weld inspection, destructive and non-destructive testing, and computer-aided design. Students perform quality welds and cuts, evaluate welds to industry standards, operate metal fabricating equipment and apply communication skills in the work environment. Students gain important knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for weld qualification to code specifications.
Program Outcomes
The welding program at Sheridan College offers a variety of required courses ranging from Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding to more advanced welding courses included Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Pipe Layout and Fabrication. Foundational courses in Metallurgy, Print Reading and Safety are also included in the program. Students will also have the opportunity to take advantage of the many elective courses offered at Sheridan College.

Our welding program is highly respected across the state and the nation. Our Welding faculty have earned national awards, including the Outstanding Technical Faculty of the Year from the American Technician Education Association (ATEA). Our students have also earned recognition from the ATEA with the Outstanding Technical Student of the Year honor.
Sheridan College has strong relationships with local and national industries in mining, construction, and manufacturing. These partnerships allow our students to gain real-world experience in professional settings during their time as students, often earning job offers before graduation.

Innovation Center
Sheridan College’s most recent building renovation and expansion, the Innovation Center, was finished in the fall of 2024. The space will support students and community members who are pursuing career opportunities in manufacturing or construction trades and also includes the new Manufacturing Incubator.

The Sheridan College Technical Center serves Welding, Construction, Diesel and Machine Tool Technology students.
