SC Rodeo Teams finish strong, qualify for CNFR at UW Rodeo
SHERIDAN, Wyo. — Sheridan College’s rodeo teams competed at the University of Wyoming Rodeo on April 24-26, with three members qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), to be held in Casper, WY June 14-20. Sheridan College Men’s Team placed third for the weekend, securing their second place standing in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standing behind the University of Wyoming. The Women’s Team came in seventh, maintaining fourth place in the region.
For the Men’s Team, Sheridan Saddle Bronc rider Jake Schlattmann came in first in the long go with an 81-point score and added a first-place finish with 78-point score in the short go, placing him at number one in the average with 159 points. Lonnie Dunn took third in the long go with 77.5 points and added a 69.5-point, fourth-place finish in the short go to come in third in the average with 147 points. Christopher Nelson tied for sixth in the short go with 71 points, then did not score in the short go, tying for ninth in the average. Schlattmann was named Central Rocky Mountain Region Saddle Bronc Champion while Nelson placed third in the region, both qualifying for CNFR in June.
In Bareback Riding, Reece Reder turned in a first-place ride in the long go, earning 81.5 points. He tied for sixth place in the long go with 75 points, landing at second place in the average with 157 points.
In Tie-Down Roping, Wiley Dempewolf took eighth in the long go with a time of 12.5 seconds and did not receive a time in the short go, placing ninth overall. In Team roping, Taiten Eaton joined Dempewolf to land tenth in the long go with a 9.6-second run, and tenth in the average after a no-time in the short go.
On the Women’s Team, Josie Johnson tied for first place in average in the Barrels with a 14.61-second, second-place run in the long go, followed by a third-place, 14.74-second run in the short go for a combined 29.35 average. Teammate Brooke Billingsley took fourth in the long go with a 14.78-second run, followed by a tenth-place, 20.01-second run in the long go, landing at ninth-place with an average of 34.79. Faith Heim tied for ninth-place in the long go with a 15.02-second run, adding a 19.95-second, ninth-place run in the short go, taking tenth-place in the average with a combined score of 34.97 seconds.
Tatum Reid landed in seventh-place in Goat Tying with an average of 14.2 seconds, earned with a 6.8-second tie for third-place in the long go and a 7.4-second, seventh-place run in the short go.
In Breakaway Roping, Sierra Hilgenkamp landed in second place with a 4.8 average after a 2.4-second, three-way tie for fourth in the long go, and 2.4-second, second-place finish in the short go. Hilgenkamp finished second in the region, joining Schlattmann and Nelson in qualifying for CNFR in June. “We couldn’t be prouder of this team and all it has accomplished this year,” said Coach Bobby Harris. “From day one they’ve put their heads down and left everything they’ve got in the arena. We look forward to seeing our qualifiers show up strong at CNFR in June.”
