“WORKING, A Musical,” is a documentary musical using modern theatrical technology with huge video walls and projection celebrating the unsung working people around us who contribute to our lives, and with whom we have unseen connections or who may otherwise get taken for granted. In the localized version, audiences will enjoy seeing people they know or have met throughout the Sheridan community featured in interviews in the production.

The musical includes songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Lin- Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz, and James Taylor.

During the two-week intensive, Broadway industry professionals will partner with Sheridan College faculty to prepare students for their roles in the musical. Industry professionals this year include Michael Guarnera, known for directing recent productions “Spring into Overdrive” and “For the Love of Judy,” in Jackson, Wyoming, and who will be directing these performances. Having performed extensively on Broadway and in television and film, Michael brings an incredible depth of experience to this production and to the educational component of the intensive. Joining him as musical director is composer Keith Thompson, who’s most recent list of professional credits include musical director and conductor for the Las Vegas companies of “Jersey Boys” at the Palazzo, “The Producers” at the Paris, “Hairspray” at the Luxor and for the North American premier of the hit musical, “We Will Rock You,” which also ran at the Paris, Las Vegas.

This year’s production will also benefit from the unique talents of projection and animation artist Antonello Stornelli, who’s portfolio features a wide array of high-profile projects, including “Monsters at Work”, “Blue Eye Samurai”, “How to Train Your Dragon”, and “Wondla.” He earned a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on Disney’s “Tangled” series. Technical Theater intensive students will have an incomparable opportunity to work with Antonello and learn about the immersive and visually compelling environments that can be created with projection.

Like last year, students were able to choose between a Performance Intensive option, which focuses on voice, acting, and dance, or a Technical Theater Intensive option, which focuses on backstage, lighting, and sound. Professional actor, singer, and tech enthusiast AJ Meijer, will also be conducting a workshop for students during the intensive.

“So far, the best part of this process has been interviewing some of our local workforce. Exploring the jobs we rely on and the people who do them was very interesting, and will be a highlight of these performances,” said Gina Feliccia, producer of the Broadway Musical Theater Intensive.
