Overview

Prepare for entry-level work as a welder in under a year! Sheridan College’s Weekend Welding Certificate works with your busy schedule, so you can keep your day job and go to school.

Students in the weekend welding program will gain an understanding of welding power sources, welding fundamentals, and hands-on experience with different welding processes. Develop skills in print reading, welding symbols, weld inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing.

When you finish the Weekend Welding Program you will be ready to start your career as an entry-level welder or decide to further your skills by signing up for the second year of the AAS welding program. Many students choose this option as you’ll be ready to gain experience in Pipe Welding, Manufacturing, and Automated Welding.

Careers & Industry Outlook

The nation’s aging infrastructure will require the expertise of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers to help rebuild bridges, highways, and buildings. These workers also will be needed in manufacturing plants, such as those that produce metal products and machinery.

Industry Projections

  • Employment of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is projected to grow 2 percent from 2023 to 2033, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the median annual wage for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers was $51,000 in May 2024.

Welders’ highly technical skills are in demand across numerous job fields, including coal mining, natural resources, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, engineering, and more. Earning Sheridan College’s Associate of Applied Science and/or Certificate of Completion in Welding will propel your career with job opportunities like:

Curriculum & Outcomes

Certificate of Completion

The Welding Certificate program prepares students for entry-level work in welding. In addition to gaining an overall understanding of welding machines, weld processes, and hands-on proficiency, students develop skills in the areas of print reading, welding symbols, weld inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing. Students also gain important knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for weld qualification. The Certificate program transitions seamlessly to the AAS degree program without loss of credit or time.

World-Class Facilities

As a Career & Technical Education student, you will learn in the leading facilities in the region, the Technical Center and the Innovation Center at Sheridan College.

    Innovation Center

    Sheridan College’s most recent building renovation and expansion, the Innovation Center, was finished in the fall of 2024. The space will support students and community members who are pursuing career opportunities in manufacturing or construction trades and also includes the new Manufacturing Incubator.
