A Social Science degree from Sheridan College gives you the flexibility to explore multiple disciplines while preparing to transfer into a bachelor’s program or begin a meaningful career in the public or private sector.

Sheridan College’s Social Science Program (Associate of Arts) provides students with core knowledge in psychology, sociology, and anthropology, while allowing you to choose electives that match your personal and professional goals. Our faculty bring expertise in mental health, criminal investigation, animal behavior, American Indian history and culture, and research, giving you opportunities to learn from diverse perspectives and real-world experience.

Sheridan College’s location in northeast Wyoming also provides a unique environment to study society and culture, both past and present. As a student in Sheridan College’s Social Science Program, you’ll take courses in psychology, sociology, criminology, and anthropology, while also choosing from electives in counseling, communication, criminal justice, economics, geography, history, political science, social work, and women’s studies.

Curriculum

Associate of Arts Degree

The Social Science program provides students with core knowledge in anthropology, sociology, and psychology. This multidisciplinary program is designed to meet the complex curricular interests of students who may not achieve their professional goals through study in a single discipline. 

Program Outcomes

  • Apply basic research methods in anthropology or sociology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Explore sociocultural diversity, on local, country, and international levels.
  • Examine the applicability of theory and empirical findings to social, policy, and global issues.
  • Summarize the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and historical trends in anthropology or sociology.
  • Assess the functionality of societies both past and present.

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates strong job growth for life, physical, and social science occupations, with an average of 148,400 projected annual openings from 2023 to 2033. This includes faster-than-average growth for fields like sociologists and social workers.
  • There is a growing need for professionals who can conduct data analysis, develop policy, and perform behavioral research in social science fields.
