The Diesel Technology programs use a hands-on approach to prepare students for a career in the diesel industry. Industry Projections
- Demand is average for diesel technology across the state and region. About 25,600 openings for diesel service technicians and mechanics are projected each year, on average, over the decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also states the median annual wage for diesel service technicians and mechanics was $60,640 in May 2024.

Curriculum & Outcomes
Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificate of Completion
The AAS Degree is a full two-year degree program that includes both hands-on technical training and general education/academic courses, preparing graduates for a broad range of diesel industry roles and enabling further study or advancement.
The Certificate of Completion is a shorter, more focused credential (often around one year) that emphasizes immediate entry-level skills in diesel engine systems and service, with less (or no) general education coursework and a faster path to employment.
Program Outcomes
The Diesel Technology AAS Program uses a hands-on approach to prepare students for a career in the diesel industry. Through courses in engines, electrical, hydraulics, drive trains, electronics, mobile air conditioning, and welding, students develop a safe work attitude and skills required to work on the most advanced diesel-powered vehicles.
- Perform diagnostic procedures used in the construction, mining, agricultural, and trucking industry to effectively troubleshoot and repair diesel powered vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with customers and shop personnel.
- Apply appropriate Diesel workplace skills.
- Perform safe working practices in the work place.
- Apply critical thinking skills for the mechanical field.
