Overview

Nurses provide care to patients and are essential members of the health care team. The nursing program at Sheridan College offers an Associate Degree in Nursing and a Certificate in Practical Nursing.

Students receive hands-on training in our advanced, high-tech simulation centers and complete extensive clinical training at healthcare facilities around the region. While enrolled in the nursing program, and through our partnership with the University of Wyoming, students may pursue their Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

Admission Information & Application

Application opens November 1. All nursing application requirements must be received prior to the March 1 deadline for consideration for admission to the program in the fall semester. Late applications will not be accepted.

Nursing program applicants must first be accepted as students at NWCCD. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the nursing program; application to the nursing program is a separate process.

Advanced Placement/ Transfer Admission Policy

Students may apply for admission as an advanced placement or transfer student into the second or third semester of the program, depending on previous qualifications. World-Class Facilities

As an Nursing student, you will receive hands-on training in our advanced, high-tech simulation centers and complete extensive clinical training at healthcare facilities around the region.

    The Perkins Health Science Center provides a modern learning environment to support multiple learning modalities. The nursing program has designated classroom space with access to current technology. The simulation center and lab features state of the art equipment and manikins to promote hands on experiences and practical application of nursing knowledge.

    Our simulation and skills labs provide a dynamic, hands- on environment where nursing students transform knowledge into practice. Featuring high fidelity manikins, advanced medical equipment, and realistic hospital and clinic settings, these labs allow students to practice patient care, critical thinking, and teamwork in a safe, supportive space. Clinical scenarios include maternal child, medical surgical, and emergency care, helping students prepare for the wide range of situations they will encounter in their careers. Guided by experienced faculty, students develop the confidence, competence, and compassion essential for professional nursing practice.

    Experience the future of nursing education with cutting-edge VR technology, interactive case studies, and virtual patient scenarios within the Perkins Health Science Building. The Sheridan College Nursing Program uses evidence-based virtual reality simulations to help students master critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and patient care skills in a safe, controlled environment. Students work alongside classmates in collaborative virtual environments where they learn from each other while managing challengin patient cases and ethical dilemmas. VR education provides students with skills training that traditional textbook learning simply can’t provide.

    • Median pay for nurses is over $65,000 per year and job growth is an impressive 19% a year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
    • By 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the U.S. alone will need 438,100 more nurses than were employed in 2016.

    Curriculum & Offerings

    The Nursing Program is an intense, 2-year course of study. This program allows students to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing, gain RN licensure and employment, and transition seamlessly to the University of Wyoming for completion of a bachelor’s degree. The curriculum is part of the statewide nursing curriculum known as Revolutionizing Nursing Education in Wyoming (ReNEW). ReNEW is designed as a baccalaureate curriculum with an ADN benchmark, allowing students to sit for the NCLEX-RN (licensure exam) at the completion of the fourth semester.

    Scholarships & Financial Aid

    Accepted nursing students are eligible for general and private donor nursing scholarships, provided they meet stated criteria.

    Accepted students to the nursing program will be notified and offered an opportunity to apply for private donor nursing scholarships each year. General scholarship opportunities must be pursued with the NWCCD Financial Aid Department.

    Measurable indicators that reflect the extent to which the purposes of the nursing program are achieved and by which nursing program effectiveness is documented.

    ACEN Licensure Exam Pass Rate standard:

    The most recent annual pass rate OR the mean pass rate for three most recent years must meet at least one of the following based on the total number of test-takers:

    • 80% or greater for all first-time test-takers; or
    • 80% or greater for all first-time test-takers and repeaters; or
    • at or above the national/territorial mean based on the nursing program type.

    ACEN Job Placement Rate standard:

    • establish a specific, measurable expected level of achievement outcome statement for job placement in the role for which graduates are prepared and provide a rationale for the expected level of achievement;

    Our nursing program has established an 80% job placement goal for graduates within 6–12 months of program completion. This benchmark is based on historical employment data, regional workforce trends, and our program’s strong partnerships with local healthcare providers. Setting this ELA at 80% reflects our commitment to preparing practice-ready graduates, supporting career success, and maintaining alignment with accreditation expectations set by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

    ACEN Program Completion Rate standard:

    • establish a specific, measurable expected level of achievement outcome statement for on-time program completion for each program option and provide a rationale for each expected level of achievement;

    Our nursing program has established a 70% program completion goal based on historical student data, national benchmarks, and the unique needs of our diverse student population. This benchmark reflects our commitment to student success, academic quality, and continuous improvement, in alignment with accreditation standards set by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Students must complete the program on time in accordance with their admission type (traditional vs advanced placement).

    • Traditional students: students beginning in semester one and completing all four semesters.
    • Advanced Placement students: students allowed to begin at a level beyond the first semester based on transcript evaluation, testing, and prior licensure/education.
