For music lovers, it’s an exciting time to enter the career field of music technology. Sheridan College’s Music Technology Certificate of Completion program features state-of-the-art recording studios and technology, expert faculty, and a hands-on curriculum that prepares you to launch your music career or helps you transfer to advanced music programs nationwide..

Our Music Technology Certificate centers on recording arts, including digital audio production and editing. It also covers music engraving, performance, and self-promotion.

Your courses will include Intro to Music Technology, Techniques for Live Sound, Music Portfolio, and more. After graduating with your Music Technology Certificate, you will understand MIDI implementation, synthesis, computer-generated notation, and multimedia integration.

For students planning to study music performance, education, composition, theory, or musicology, our Music Technology Certificate can enhance your degree and career options. Music-related software, hardware, and recording applications have become an increasingly important component of every musician’s skill set.

For students pursuing non-music degrees, no prior music training is necessary to participate in Sheridan College’s Music Technology Program. Traditional music notation literacy can be helpful but not required. All you need to get started is an interest in using technology to create and record music.

World-Class Facilities

    As a music student, you will learn in one of the leading performing arts facilities in the region, the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College.

    This multi-million dollar facility includes cutting-edge studios for performing, recording, sculpture, ceramics, painting, and drawing. Additionally, the performance hall and galleries serve up a variety of professional concerts and art exhibitions for students and the community of Sheridan.

    The Whitney Center for the Arts features a 422-seat concert hall with variable acoustic banners to adjust the sounds reflection and highlight performances in the hall. The changeable proscenium stage has a motorized fly system and an orchestra pit. All college music performances are live streamed to the music YouTube channel with multiple cameras, and multi-channel live recording capability.

    Equipped with a new Mac Studio running ProTools and Logic Pro, music students have access to the campus recording studio for projects and in-class learning. The studio is connected to the concert hall (along with visual capabilities) and surrounding recording spaces, with a professional monitoring system. Outboard pro-level preamps and processors, and a Focusrite RedNet Dante system as well as high-end microphones. There are Pearl and Gretsch drum kits as well as Fender, Darkglass, and other guitar/bass amps.

    The music technology lab is fully equipped with updated Mac computers, MIDI hardware and recording interfaces for a wide variety of projects.


    Curriculum

    The Certificate in Music Technology provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the latest advances in Music Technology while fostering the development of creativity and professional skills used in the music industry. The program is suited for preparing students to pursue careers in music production, performance, composition, sound engineering, and multimedia design. It is also ideal for hobbyists interested in using technology to create and record music.
