Overview
The Manufacturing Composites Technology Program offers students a chance to work with the fabrication, assembly, and repair of mixed and composite materials used in industries like aerospace, sporting goods, ground transportation, construction, medical devices, and more.
This unique and acclaimed program introduces students to basic composite materials, as well as the development and production of these products. Students will learn and demonstrate industry standards concerning safety, terminology, as well as composite inspection and repair. In addition, students will be able to apply hands-on classroom exercise to learn basic hand skills and layup procedures, design molds and forms, and create projects with different materials.

The Manufacturing Composites Technology Program provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled entry-level positions in the areas of fabrication, assembly, and repair of mixed and composite materials. Potential employment sectors include aerospace, marine, ground transportation, construction, energy, sporting equipment, and medical devices.
Note: Students will be required to complete 31 credit hours to earn this Certificate of Completion.
Program Outcomes
The knowledge and skills gained through this program are necessary for entry-level positions as composite technicians. Some of the careers where composite technical skills can be applied include repair technician, fabricator, and parts designer. Potential employment sectors include aerospace, marine, ground transportation, construction, energy, sporting equipment, power generation, and medical devices.
- Understand and solve technical programs (such as fiber resin ratio)
- Describe the four categories of composites and common materials used in industry.
- Learn basic hand skills for the layup of composite materials using fiberglass, carbon fiber, epoxy and polyester resin
- Design molds and forms for the layup of fiberglass and carbon fiber materials
- Build and vacuum bag composite materials for room temperature cure and oven cure materials
- Create projects in composite materials showing how surface energy is increased and decreased
- Design for producing and manufacturing ease

Innovation Center
Sheridan College’s most recent building renovation and expansion, the Innovation Center, was finished in the fall of 2024.
