Overview

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems are imperative to homes, schools, hospitals, businesses, factories, and more. Keeping the in-doors temperatures warm in the winter and cool in the summer, climate control technology has a monumental impact on daily life across the nation. HVAC professionals and technicians help manage climates, air filters, refrigeration and more using industry-leading technology.

Sheridan College’s HVAC Apprenticeship Certificate program is designed for working professionals to become licensed HVAC Journeyman.

Many students in the HVAC Certificate also earn other technical certificates, such as Welding. You can apply course credits toward earning an Associate degree in Industrial Technology at Sheridan College.

Careers & Industry Outlook

Commercial and residential building construction is expected to drive employment growth. The growing number of sophisticated climate-control systems is also expected to increase demand for qualified heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers (HVAC technicians).

Industry Projections

  • Employment of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is projected to grow 9 percent from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding more than 42,500 new jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the median annual wage was $59,810 in May 2024.

Job Types

HVAC technicians ensure that heating and air conditioning systems work properly to control the temperature, humidity, and overall air quality in buildings. You can earn Journeyman status in the HVAC field and work on a variety of related systems, such as:

Curriculum & Outcomes

Certificate of Completion

The HVAC Apprenticeship Certificate at Sheridan College provides a combination of online and laboratory educational components. This program meets the state-approved HVAC Apprenticeship educational guidelines that complement the 2000-hour-per-year, working component needed to meet the yearly requirements set by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, Wyoming Department of Labor, for apprentices to become eligible to sit for the journeyman’s exam.

    Innovation Center

    Sheridan College’s most recent building renovation and expansion, the Innovation Center, was finished in the fall of 2024. The space will support students and community members who are pursuing career opportunities in manufacturing or construction trades and also includes the new Manufacturing Incubator.
