Overview
Sheridan College’s Carpentry Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion offers a comprehensive, industry-standard pathway for students to gain essential skills, certifications, and knowledge for advancing their careers in carpentry. Open to individuals of all ages and skill levels currently employed in the field, the program requires students to be working under a licensed contractor registered with the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship in Cheyenne.
Apprentices work full-time, receiving on-the-job training at their place of employment. They then complete related classroom instruction in off-work hours to earn nationally recognized credentials. This program can be completed in 3-5 semesters by taking 1 or 2 classes per semester. Start in Fall or Spring semester.
The apprenticeship program is a 4-year plan, in which students take one class each Fall only. From Level I to Level 4.

The Carpentry Apprenticeship Program provides the educational strategies and opportunities necessary to succeed in this profession. This state-approved program complements the 2000-hour-per-year working component needed to meet the yearly requirements set by the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Once the program is completed, apprentices achieve a Journeyman Carpentry Certificate from the Bureau of Apprenticeship.

Careers & Industry Outlook
The versatile carpentry field is growing across the region and nation, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Increased homebuilding and remodeling activities have led to an increased demand for carpenters in virtually every state. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that from 2016-2026 over 83,800 jobs will be added to this field, an increase of over 8 percent.

Job Types
Carpenters construct, repair, and install building frameworks and structures made from wood and other materials, install kitchen cabinets, craft door frames, and more. Curriculum & Offerings
Participants begin as journeyman carpenters and progress toward becoming licensed general contractors. The program is structured to accommodate full-time employment, combining on-the-job training at the student’s workplace with flexible, online classroom instruction that can be completed outside of work hours. Upon completion, students earn nationally recognized credentials that enhance their career prospects and professional standing.
Certificate of Completion
This program provides educational components for a State approved Carpentry Apprenticeship that complements the 2000 hour per year working component needed to meet the yearly requirements set by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, Department of Labor, Cheyenne, Wyoming, for apprentices to become eligible to sit for the journeyman’s exam.

Innovation Center
Sheridan College’s most recent building renovation and expansion, the Innovation Center, was finished in the fall of 2024. The space will support students and community members who are pursuing career opportunities in manufacturing or construction trades and also includes the new Manufacturing Incubator.

The Sheridan College Technical Center serves Welding, Construction, Diesel and Machine Tool Technology students.
