Athletic Training is a rapidly growing and respected professional field of study and practice. The Sheridan College Athletic Training Associate of Science Program combines high quality academic instruction with many opportunities for hands-on learning. Curriculum
Associate of Science Degree
Students develop an understanding of the principles and fundamentals of the athletic training field. Students also develop skills in care and prevention techniques as well as have basic exposure to therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation.
Careers & Industry Outlook
Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health care profession, specializing in the practice of preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity and athletic performance.
From working in high schools and colleges to professional sports teams, athletic trainers are found virtually everywhere sports and physical activities are played. Earning the highly regarded Associate of Science Degree at Sheridan College will allow you to seamlessly transfer to a master’s degree program across the region or country and ultimately pursue a career in the field. Sheridan College has a 2+3 articulation agreement with Montana State University – Billings, meaning you can complete your master’s (which you must have to be an athletic trainer) by completing an associate’s degree at Sheridan College plus three additional years at MSU-Billings. Athletic trainers duties include:
- Evaluate athletic injuries
- Develop rehabilitation programs for injured athletes
- Apply braces, tapes, and bandages to athletes to prevent injury
- Write and manage injury reports
Industry Projections
- According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of athletic trainers is projected to grow 11 percent from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 2,400 openings for athletic trainers are projected each year.

Faculty
Our dedicated faculty at Sheridan College will make sure you understand the fundamentals of Athletic Training. Our enthusiastic, highly trained instructors will guide you through well-designed and fun courses like Taping & Wrapping, and Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries.
Sheridan College has strong partnerships when it comes to Athletic Training. Students who complete the Associate of Science in Athletic Training pursue higher education across the country. We have articulation partnerships with Montana State University-Billings to earn master’s degrees in athletic training within three years after graduating from Sheridan College. You can take two years at Sheridan College and then transfer to Montana State University-Billings, and graduate in three years with a master’s degree in athletic training.
