Leslie F. Mohns Center

The Leslie F. Mohns Center is the home of the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery, located south of the Whitney Center north of the Science Center. Each year, the College hosts the Science Museum Lecture Series in the Center. The Mohns Center also houses a 12-inch Cave telescope (in 1979), a Foucault pendulum, and an archeology lab.

Keeping time with the Earth’s rotation

The first Foucault (foo-KOH) Pendulum installed in Wyoming is one of the main attractions of the Mohns Center. When Les Mohns facilitated the building’s construction, he also financed the pendulum. It was the 38th pendulum built by California Academy of Science Pendulums. The movement of the pendulum demonstrates the rotation of the earth throughout the day.
