SC Rodeo Teams continue strong season at Eastern Wyoming College rodeo

SHERIDAN, Wyo. — Sheridan College’s Rodeo Teams competed at the Eastern Wyoming College Rodeo in Torrington, Wyo., on March 27-29, with multiple student-athletes earning top finishes and event titles. The Sheridan College Men’s Team took second at the rodeo, holding steady at second in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings behind the University of Wyoming. The Women’s Team placed third overall at the rodeo, rising to fourth place in the region.

For the Men’s Team, Reece Reder tied for third in Bareback Riding in the first round with 75 points and was bucked off second round, landing tenth on the average.

In Saddle Bronc Riding, Sheridan riders swept the top three spots. Christopher Nelson claimed first place in the long go with 77 points and added a fourth-place finish in the short go with 72 points coming in second in the average with 149 points. Teammate Jake Schlattmann placed ninth in the long go with 66 points before winning the short go with 81.5 points, earning third in the average with 147.5 points. Lonnie Dunn contributed a second-place finish in both the long go and short go with 75 points and 80 points respectively, finishing on top in the average with 155 points. Jack Chase took fourth in the long go with 73 points, and had a no score in the short go, taking seventh place in the average.

In Tie-Down Roping, Tyon Arneson took eighth in the long go with a time of 12 seconds and added a second-place finish in the short go with a time of 10 seconds, placing third in the average.

In Team Roping, Blaise Lange and Colby Olson placed seventh in the long go with an 8.5-second run and had no time in the short go, finishing eighth in the average.

On the Women’s Team, Josie Johnson finished sixth overall in Goat Tying with an 8.5-second run followed 10.7-second run in the short go, tying for seventh in both rounds.

In Breakaway Roping, Ryen Sheppick tied for first in the long go with University of Wyoming’s Olivia Lay, recording a 1.9-second run. Sheppick went on to place first in the short go with a 2.4-second run, finishing first in the average. Teammate Brooke Billingsley tied for 5th place alongside four other contestants with a time of 2.4 seconds, going on to place seventh in the short go with a 20.7-second run, finishing eight in the average.

“We’re starting to see things come together at the right time,” said Coach Bobby Harris. “To have that kind of showing in saddle bronc riding and strong finishes across the board speaks to the depth of this team. Both the men’s and women’s teams are building momentum, and it’s showing in the regional standings.”

The Sheridan College Rodeo Teams compete next April 3-5 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo.
