Areas of Emphasis

The BAS in Management and Leadership has two areas of emphasis from which to choose.

Business Emphasis

The emphasis in Business focuses on building valuable business skills you can apply to nearly any career. This track is beneficial to individuals interested in leading, managing, or owning a business and focuses on practical and useful strategies for success.

Industrial Technology Emphasis

The Industrial Technology emphasis is tailored for the individual looking to go further in their career. It is ideal for those interested in industrial trades and/or perhaps already with an Associate Degree in any applied field such as automotive, construction, diesel, electrical, welding, or others. This emphasis combines skills already learned in the field with skills needed to move into management positions or to start a new business.

About 963,500 openings are projected each year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median annual wage for this group was $80,920 in May 2024.
  • Overall employment in management occupations is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2023 to 2033. About 1.2 million openings are projected each year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median annual wage for this group was $122,090 in May 2024.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Management and Leadership, with two areas of emphasis:

This provides students the upper-division education and practical training needed to succeed in supervisory, management, or leadership positions in a wide range of businesses and industries.

The Industrial Technology emphasis incorporates the unique practical applications found among Career and Technical Education (CTE) disciplines. Students learn various aspects of management including finance, business law, strategic planning, human resource management, project management, operations management, non-profit organizations, leadership, and professional and organizational communications.

This program focuses on real-world application with case studies, research projects, and presentations. Students will have the opportunity to work in teams throughout the program.

Program Outcomes

  • Evaluate financial statements and operating results to develop business decisions and solutions.
  • Assess the effectiveness or efficiency of management functions to optimize business operations and achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate ethical practices in business.
  • Assess the impact of economic trends on domestic and international economic systems to inform strategic business planning.
  • Determine the written, oral, and visual communication skills needed to effectively manage and lead diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Create decisionmaking models from experiential learning to improve problem-solving and strategic planning in management contexts.
