Whitney Center for the Arts Concert Hall and Performing Arts Coordinator, Dr. Ryan Landis, is thrilled to announce the lineup for its 2019 – 2020 season. Every year, these highly anticipated performances bring award-winning artists and musicians to spark creativity and curiosity to Sheridan and the surrounding communities, according to Landis.
The 2019-2020 season includes ten events that represent a wide variety of genres and musical offerings. Kicking off the season in September is Yarn / Wire, a quartet of two percussionists and two pianists that TimeOutNY referred to as “fearless” and possessing “spell binding virtuosity.” Next up is the acclaimed New York-based Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company, who for nearly two decades have moved audiences with their entertaining flair, stylistic diversity, musicality, innovation and accessibility. A busy November begins with the much-anticipated return of the Whitney Center Jazz Orchestra to the Kinnison Hall Stage. Next the Whitney Center will welcome the nationally recognized Lorelei Ensemble, who are known for their bold and inventive programs that champion the extraordinary flexibility and virtuosity of the human voice. The Skyline Singers – Sheridan College’s newest Ensemble-in-Residence – will entertain with varied selections that showcase music from the past 400 years.
Grammy-nominated string orchestra A Far Cry will warm up the cold February winter with their distinct approach to music-making. Janet Feder is next in the season – widely known for pioneering composition for guitar, she has been featured on numerous recordings, radio programs, and film scores. In April, the world-renowned Boston Brass are sure to wow with their one-of-a-kind musical experience featuring performances of exciting classical arrangements and jazz favorites. The Denver-based Colorado Chamber Players, together with the French Stanislas Quartet, will deliver an intimate and captivating performance of classical chamber string music. The 2019 – 2020 season will conclude with the Sheridan College Ensemble-in-Residence Wyoming Baroque, who specialize in historically informed performances of 17th– and 18th-century repertoire as well as contemporary compositions.
