High school students prepare to test skills at Tech Battle Day

Next Friday, Feb. 14, high school teams made up of juniors and seniors from all across Wyoming and parts of South Dakota will come to Gillette College to compete at Tech Battle Day. Students will compete in the areas of welding, diesel, machine tool and industrial electricity for over $10,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Students do not receive information about what their challenges will be until they arrive at the college. All competition will take place in the Technical Education Center labs and classrooms, giving students a taste of what they might expect as college students.

“Tech Battle Day provides in-depth interaction between our faculty and future students,” said Shannon Henshaw, enrollment counselor for Gillette College. “It’s a great way for students to get hands-on experience in our Technical Education Center and experience college-level lab work.”
