University of Mary’s Nate Ulness will guide first season of new program

Gillette College is pleased to announce the hiring of Nate Ulness as its first Women’s Soccer Head Coach.

Coach Ulness has already begun to make a name for himself in a variety of positions. As Head Coach of both the Century High School (Bismark, ND) boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, he has compiled an impressive combined 117-26-21 record, winning four state championships since taking over in 2012. He also has been an assistant with the University of Mary Lady Marauders, which competes in Division II of the NCAA, since 2012.

“Coach Ulness is an up-and-coming coach in women’s soccer,” said Jenni Winter, GC Athletic Director, “His experience as both a player and women’s soccer coach will be a great fit for our first-year program. We are excited to have him onboard and to begin building the program.”

Coach Ulness’s first task will be recruiting and fielding a team for next school year. This is a task he takes very seriously and believes he can do well.

“I look for student-athletes who can compete in both the classroom and on the field,” he said. “I have learned to evaluate athletic talent in recruiting, but also to learn about the recruit as a person. I have recruited the state of Wyoming and am very familiar with the talent that is available in the state as well as locally within Gillette and will make it a priority to recruit them to Gillette College.”
