Science Saturday

Blooms for Bees & Butterflies

On Saturday May 21, starting at 1pm in Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts, Wyoming PBS is partnering with Science Kids, and Sheridan College to bring you a very special event inspired by My Garden of a Thousand Bees, the 40th-season-premiere episode of Nature on PBS. There will be open seating, and the doors open at 12:30, so come early and get your spot!

In celebration of the film, Nature and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios have joined One Square Foot, an initiative from the World Wildlife Fund and Air Wick Scented Oils to encourage the planting of native wildflowers that support bees and other pollinators. There will be a screening of the film My Garden of a Thousand Bees starting at 1 p.m. in Kinnison Hall inside the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College, followed by a Q & A panel discussion with virtual panelists Filmmaker Martin Dohrn, Executive Producer Fred Kaufman, and WWF’s Katy Fenn moderated by in-person Science Kids youth. There will be learning stations setup to explore from 2:30 – 3:30 including Wildscape your space, Build for bees, Meet the pollinators, and Track blooms and bees. Closing out the event will be the Planting Party from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. during which participants will take part in the planting of 3,500 square feet of native wildlfowers. Sugar cookies and nectar beverages will be served.
