SUMMARY:Science Lecture Series: Nuclear Nanotechnology: How Going Smaller Can Make Large Impacts in Nuclear Energy
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, Oct. 14\, 7:00 pm – W153. Free. Attend in person or via zoom.\n\n\n\nWith Liane Moreau\, Department of Chemistry\, Nuclear Energy Research Center\, UW \n\n\n\nAbstract: Dr. Moreau’s group aims to understand what happens to the structural and electronic properties of the radioactive actinide elements as you make them very small in size\, down to the atomic and nanometer length scales. The Moreau group both synthesizes the actinide particles that they study\, as well as performs comprehensive characterization on these new systems to understand structure/property relationships. \nBiosketch:Dr. Liane Moreau is very excited to continue her independent career at the University of Wyoming and looks forward to growing the program into an internationally-renowned center for nuclear research.

SUMMARY:Thickman Faculty Lecture Series: Let Evening Come: Post-Pastoral Poetry and Writing Rural Spaces
DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday\, October 21 at 6 p.m. in room W153 for a lecture with Tyler Julian\, HSSE\, Associate Professor of English\n“Let Evening Come”: Post-Pastoral Poetry and Writing Rural Spaces will explore how rural spaces\, particularly those with agricultural connections\, have been presented in literature over time and how that presentation has evolved. The lecture will work to determine what accurate representation of rural spaces and their people looks like in literature. The lecture will engage classical and contemporary poetry and culminate in a brief reading of Tyler’s work to explore rural poetry fully. Once done\, the topic will be open to questions. \nFor more information contact the Sheridan College Foundation at (307) 675-0700. \n
