SUMMARY:Shelest Piano Duo
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in Kinnison Hall for the Shelest Piano Duo.\nGet Tickets \nPraised for their “stirring performances of rare repertory” (Fanfare)\, the acclaimed team of Anna and Dmitri Shelest traces its roots to Ukraine’s prestigious Kharkiv Special Music School. At their Carnegie Hall debut in February\, 2018\, the duo’s CD release of “Ukrainian Rhapsody” brought renewed international attention to the music of their homeland. Subsequently\, that recording has been featured as the Album of the Week on radio stations throughout the United States\, including WCRB (Boston) and KUSC (Los Angeles). Having been classmates since middle school\, the artists began performing together after their marriage in the United States. Their inventive programs brought them to a broad array of venues from concert stages to state functions\, and\, in the words of then-Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon\, “realized diplomacy through music.” \nAnna and Dmitri Shelest and their two sons make their home in New York City. \nVisit their website.

SUMMARY:Broadway Musical Theater Intensive presents: Little Shop of Horrors by Howard Ashman
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the culmination of our two-week Broadway Musical Theater Intensive with performances of Little Shop of Horrors by Howard Ashman on Friday\, June 26 at 7 p.m. and Saturday\, June 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.\nLittle Shop of Horrors is a comedic\, rock-infused musical featuring lyrics and book by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken. Set in a struggling flower shop on Skid Row\, the story centers on Seymour Krelborn\, a shy and down-on-his-luck employee who discovers a strange and unusual plant during a solar eclipse. Hoping to save the failing business and impress his co-worker Audrey\, Seymour nurtures the plant—quickly drawing attention\, customers\, and unexpected success to the shop. \nBut as the plant grows\, so do the stakes. What begins as a quirky opportunity soon reveals a darker edge\, testing Seymour’s morality and pushing him into increasingly difficult choices. Blending catchy doo-wop–style numbers with humor and suspense\, the musical explores themes of ambition\, love\, and the cost of chasing success\, all wrapped in a wildly entertaining and slightly sinister package.

The world has to be ready for you” \nBoston\, 1956. Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin\, one of the most eminent astronomers of the twentieth century\, is about to be appointed Chair of Astronomy and the first woman to head a Harvard department. Only two things stand in her way: a covert investigation aimed at exposing her as a communist sympathizer\, and the entrenched conservatism of her male colleagues. When a student journalist asks to profile her it feels like an opportunity to control her own narrative – assuming\, of course\, that the invitation is actually what it seems… \nPlease note: Show contains adult language

SUMMARY:Amanda Allyn\, Faculty Recital\, "It Ain't That Deep"
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, March 24 at 7 pm for a free recital by adjunct faculty Amanda Allyn in Kinnison Hall.\n“It Ain’t That Deep” reflects the rich\, living tapestry of American commercial music genres born from the creative resilience\, expression\, and brilliance of Black American musical traditions and continually shaped by artists across cultures and generations. From soul and R&B to pop and singer-songwriter styles\, these songs honor a lineage that bridges storytelling\, groove\, and vocal authenticity. \nWithin the academic study of voice\, we explore style\, vocal function\, and the cultural forces that shape contemporary commercial sound. But “It Ain’t That Deep” is a reminder to not get lost in the mechanics or rigor of scholarship; at its heart\, this music is about expression\, freedom\, moving\, and connection. This program is a celebration of versatility\, vulnerability\, and the ongoing dialogue between scholarship and commercial music today. \nBand:\nGuitar – Jake Hirschman\nBass – Shawn Day\nKeys – Isaac Campbell\nDrums – Titus Brown\nAdditional Vocals – Danielle Law\, Emmie Rambur\, Neva Rose Patterson\, Various Students of Sheridan College and Aspen Grove Music Studio \nAmanda Allyn is a contemporary vocalist whose sound moves authentically across the R&B\, country\, pop\, and soul landscapes. Shaped by Shenandoah Conservatory graduate studies in commercial and contemporary voice pedagogy\, Amanda leans into the grain of the human voice: the crack\, the cry\, the pulse beneath the pitch. As both performer and pedagogue\, she brings a dual lens to the stage. Amanda understands the mechanics of the instrument\, but more importantly\, she honors its humanity. \nIn addition to teaching piano and voice at Sheridan College\, Amanda is the founder of Aspen Grove Music Studio in Sheridan\, Wyoming\, where she cultivates a collaborative and diverse student-centered community. She also directs The Hubcaps\, a creative aging choir celebrating lifelong musicianship\, and is actively involved in directing and coaching drama productions at Big Horn High School throughout the year.
