Also, although Sheridan College has Important Dates and Deadlines, make sure you meet the Welding department’s dates and deadlines. In some cases, you may need to turn in materials much earlier than you would for the general application process.

Step 1

STEP 1: APPLY FOR SC ADMISSIONS

For questions about Step 1, contact Admissions at (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000 or email us at admissions@sheridan.edu.

  1. Requirement: You must be at least 16 years of age.
  2. To Do: Apply Online. There is no application fee.
  3. What to Expect: You will receive an official letter welcoming you to SC within a week once you are admitted. If haven’t received a letter in a week’s time, please contact admissions (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000.
  4. Deadline: Check Welding for official deadlines.

STEP 2: APPLY FOR THE WELDING PROGRAM

  1. Requirements: Follow the instructions carefully on the Welding application page. Some requirements specific to the Welding program are not listed here.

STEP 3: SUBMIT ACT SCORES OR TAKE COMPASS TEST

  1. ACT Scores
    1. Requirements: A score of 21 or better on the ACT Math, and 21 or better on the ACT English. Scores must be submitted before registering for classes.
      ACT scores are only good for one year after you graduate. Even if your ACT scores meet the requirements, if you have been out of high school for more than a year, then the scores are unusable and you will need to take the Compass Placement Tests.

    3. What to Expect: You do not need to do the Compass test.
  2. Compass Testing(Math and English Placement Tests)
    1. Requirements:You need to take the Compass Test if:
      1. If you’ve not received a 21 or better on the ACT Math, and/or a 21 or better on the ACT English.
      2. You haven’t taken the ACT.
      3. You took the ACT more than a year ago. ACT scores are only good for one year after you graduate.
        Scores must be submitted before registering for classes.
    2. To Do: To schedule a Compass test for Math and/or English, contact Enrollment Services at (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000. If you take a Compass test at SC, the scores will automatically be submitted to admissions.
    3. What to Expect: Each test requires a photo ID, costs $5, and takes about an hour.

STEP 4: SUBMIT OFFICIAL COPIES OF COLLEGE (OTHER THAN SC) OR TECHNICAL SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS (IF APPLICABLE)

  1. Requirement: Submit official copies of transcripts for any colleges or technical schools you attended other than SC. If SC already has your transcripts from other institution(s), you can skip this step.

STEP 5: SUBMIT HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED SCORES

    1. Requirements: High School transcripts must be submitted after graduation.

STEP 6: APPLY FOR FAFSA, SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

  1. FAFSA
    1. To Do: All students are encouraged to apply online for federal aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov as early as possible. Use school code 003930 for Sheridan or Gillette Colleges.
    2. Priority Deadline: The institutional deadline is April 1st but check Welding for any specific deadlines.
  2. Scholarships
    1. Requirements: One scholarship application and one letter.
    2. To Do: All students are encouraged to apply for institutional scholarships by contacting Financial Aid (307) 674-6446 ext. 2100 or email scfinaid@sheridan.edu. Also, you can review different types of scholarships.
    3. Deadline: The institutional deadline is April 1st but check Welding for specific deadlines.
  3. Financial Questions and Advising

STEP 7: MEET WITH AN ADVISOR & REGISTER FOR CLASSES

For questions about Step 7, please contact Advising  at (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000.

  1. Requirement: All first-time students at SC must meet with an advisor. After you have been selected as a Welding student and notified by the Welding Department, you will be contacted by an Admissions and Advising, who will help you with Fall registration.
  2. Note: After your first semester in school, you will meet with your Faculty Advisor to work on your course schedule, though the Advising office is always available help with any questions you might have about selecting the correct classes for graduation.

STEP 8: APPLY FOR HOUSING (NOT REQUIRED)

  1. To Do: Follow housing application instructions, complete application and submit $125 deposit fee. It is recommended that students submit their application for housing as soon as possible.

STEP 9: PAY EXPENSES

  1. To Do: Tuition, fees, housing and other expenses must be paid (or arranged to be paid) on or before the payment deadline date. The Business Office is located in the Whitney Building, Room W134. Campus Map

STEP 10: OBTAIN COLLEGE ID

  1. Requirements: Tuition and expenses need to be paid before obtaining an ID.

STEP 12: ATTEND ORIENTATION

  1. Requirement: Orientation is required for all first-time Sheridan College students registered for 6 or more credit hours, and all degree-seeking candidates. Orientation is highly recommended for high school students.
