STEP 1: APPLY FOR ADMISSIONS

STEP 2: SUBMIT ACT SCORES OR TAKE COMPASS TEST

  1. Compass Testing(Math and English Placement Tests)
    1. Requirements:You DO NOT need to take the Compass Test if:
      1. You’ve taken college level Math and English classes and received a grade of “C” or above. Skip to step 3.
      2. You’ve taken the Compass test less than a year ago. Compass test scores are only good for one year. If you have scores from another institution, please have them faxed to (307) 674-3373, Attention: Admissions.
        Scores must be submitted before registering for classes.
    2. Optional: Prep for the Compass exam at Montana Veterans Upward Bound by taking a free three-week online course and practice test. If you don’t need the online course, you can see how you would score by taking a practice Compass test.
    3. To Do: To schedule a Compass test for Math and/or English, contact Enrollment Services at (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000. If you take a Compass test at SC, the scores will automatically be submitted to admissions.
    4. What to Expect: Each test requires a photo ID, costs $5, and takes about an hour.

STEP 3: IF YOU’VE NEVER ATTENDED COLLEGE, SUBMIT HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED SCORES

    1. Requirements: High School transcripts must be submitted after graduation.

STEP 4: SUBMIT OFFICIAL COPIES OF COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS (IF APPLICABLE)

  1. Requirement: Submit official copies of transcripts for any colleges attended and complete the Change of Program or Place of Training Form IF you used GI Bill at another college.

STEP 5: PROVIDE AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT OF MILITARY TRAINING

STEP 6: APPLY FOR FAFSA, VETERAN BENEFITS SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

    1. To Do: All students are encouraged to apply online for federal aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov as early as possible. Use school code 003930 for Sheridan or Gillette Colleges.

  3. Scholarships
    1. Requirements: One scholarship application and one letter.
    2. To Do: All students are encouraged to apply for institutional scholarships by contacting Financial Aid (307) 674-6446 ext. 2100 or email scfinaid@sheridan.edu. Also, you can review different types of scholarships. including the Marna M. Kuehne Scholarship for Disabled Veterans.

  4. Financial Questions and Advising

STEP 7: MEET WITH AN ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR

For questions about Step 7, please contact Admissions at (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000.

  1. Requirement: All first-time students at SC must meet with an admissions counselor.
  2. To Do: Meet with an admissions counselor to review general information and to schedule an advising appointment.
  3. Important Dates: You can make an appointment with an admissions counselor on or after the date that Fall Registration opens.

STEP 8: MEET WITH AN ADVISOR

  1. Requirement: All first-time students at SC must meet with an advisor.
  2. To Do: Make an appointment to meet with an SC advisor to select classes for your course schedule. Also, complete a Student Educational Plan (SEP) form with your advisor and give a copy to Veteran Services, Whitney Bldg, Room W125.

    Important Dates: You can make an appointment with an advisor on or after the date that Fall Registration opens up.
  4. Note: After your first semester in school, you will meet with your Faculty Advisor to work on your course schedule, though the Advising office is always available help with any questions you might have about selecting the correct classes for graduation.

STEP 9: REGISTER FOR CLASSES

  1. Requirements: Your course schedule with an advisor’s signature and Student Educational Plan.
  2. To Do: Complete a Veteran Certification Form, and email it to Brett Burtis, bburtis@sheridan.edu.
  3. Note: Priority Registration is available for all veteran/military students at Sheridan and Gillette Colleges. As soon as the semester schedule is published, you can complete your course schedule with an advisor and drop it off at the Records Office. Veteran and military students can register for classes the day before general registration opens.

STEP 10: APPLY FOR HOUSING (NOT REQUIRED)

  1. To Do: Follow housing application instructions, complete application and submit $125 deposit fee. It is recommended that students submit their application for housing as soon as possible.

STEP 11: PAY EXPENSES

  1. To Do: Make sure you’ve determined your residency status, it will affect the price of your tuition. If you feel as though you should be classified as a Wyoming resident, you can appeal your status and submit it to Enrollment Services in the Stevens Building. Campus Map
  2. To Do: Tuition, fees, housing and other expenses must be paid (or arranged to be paid) on or before the payment deadline date. The Business Office is located in the Whitney Building, Room W134. Campus Map

STEP 12: OBTAIN COLLEGE ID

  1. Requirements: Tuition and expenses need to be paid before obtaining an ID.

STEP 13: BUY BOOKS

STEP 14: ATTEND ORIENTATION

For questions about Step 14, please contact Advising at (307) 674-6446 ext. 2000.

  1. Requirement: Orientation is required for all first-time Sheridan College students registered for 6 or more credit hours, and all degree-seeking candidates. Orientation is highly recommended for high school students. All student veterans are expected to attend the veteran orientation portion regardless of the number of registered credits.
