COUNSELING SERVICES AVAILABLE
Counseling Services are free to Students of NWCCD and its affiliated schools.
Individual Counseling
From informal consultation to short-term psychotherapy. For issues ranging from personal enrichment to stress and other psychological difficuilties (i.e., depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
Couples Counseling
To help those who are having difficulties in their relationships and those who just want to have a better relationship (i.e., communication enhancement, pre-marital counseling).
Group Counseling
Counseling done with a small group of people with similar concerns and the counselor. Supporting each other in modifying thoughts, feelings or behaviors to feel better about themselves and cope more effectively with life.
Mental Health Screenings
Screenings for depression, eating disorders, and alcohol abuse are provided at various times of the year. Anonymous online screening (for depression, bipolar, generalized anxiety, PTSD, alcohol, and eating disorders) is available at: : http://www.mentalhealthscreening.org/screening/NWYCCD
Crisis Intervention
If a crisis occurs, the counselor can assist the person in the use of problem solving and stress management skills to regain a sense of control and return to his/her prior level of healthy functioning.
Confidentiality
Due to the sensitive and personal nature of counseling, all personal counseling services are confidential. This means that nothing you share with your counselor is revealed to anyone outside of Counseling Services without your written consent (with the exceptions of imminent danger of serious harm to yourself or others, abuse of children or endangered adults, or in the case of a legally issued subpeona). It means that no one can phone or visit CS and even find out whether you are receiving services. Counselors are bound both ethically and legally to maintain confidentiality.
