WORK EXPERIENCES

All Employment & Training for Self-Sufficiency (ETSS) student participants are encouraged to participate in work experiences during their time in college including internships, co-ops, clinicals, work study, student employment, job shadowing, and outside employment in their career field. The benefits of such experiences are multitude and serve to (1) ease the transition into the world of work, (2) provide hands-on learning and practical application of classroom instruction, (3) allow students to see the first hand the industry in which they are training, (4) encourage mentoring and networking experiences with workplace supervisors and co-workers, (5) build stronger resumes and job confidence, and (6) provide financial assistance while in college. Some students find full-time work during summer and holiday vacations from the contacts they have made during these school year work experiences, and some accept full-time positions with their work sponsors when they graduate/certify. These work experiences provide wonderful opportunities for future employers to see what skills the students possess and how the students will fit into their respective work place climate.
