Health & Fitness Leadership

The Health and Fitness Leadership program blends a liberal arts education with a specialized study of exercise science and human movement. Students explore opportunities to develop knowledge and skills, learn from experienced health and fitness professionals, and challenge their individual potential as they prepare for a career in the exercise science arena.

The curriculum offers a balance between scientific theory and practical application. The program includes the study of human anatomy and physiology, sports nutrition, training and conditioning, health promotion, and exercise physiology. Graduates of the program are also eligible to sit for a national exam offered by the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Council on Strength and Fitness, American Council on Exercise, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Sheridan College’s Fitness Center provides a great opportunity for hands-on laboratory experiences and internship work. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their strength and conditioning skills by using the variety of equipment available.

Members of the faculty include certified personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and healthy lifestyle coaches – all with varied experiences and backgrounds. Theater

People pursue a degree in theater for a number of reasons. Some just like to act. Others may want to pursue a career as a playwright, director or just become President of the United States. But what ever the reason, a degree in theater can take you to places you never envisioned.

Theater majors work in the field of entertainment, education, art direction, design, industry and commerce. The Sheridan College theater department is led by two outstanding actors/directors whose resumes include over twenty five years of professional theater experience and are both vested in Actors Equity Association.

Since its inception 10 years ago, the No Frills Theater Company of Sheridan College has produced classic theater, contemporary comedies, dramas and children’s theater. Productions include Antigone, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Harvey, Barefoot in the Park, Private Wars, Laundry and Bourbon, and Lone Star just to name a few.

For the past five years, the No Frills Theater Company’s productions have been entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival/ Irene Ryan Scholarship competition. This competition has resulted in allowing outstanding young actors to compete on a national level.

Sheridan College Ag. students study in the new multi-million dollar Watt Regional Ag. Center and enjoy small class sizes with competent, caring instructors. FOOD & MEAT SCIENCE EMPHASIS

SC’s Agriculture: Food Science option prepares students as entry-level food scientists or as transfer students into a baccalaureate program at a college or university. Food Science students benefit from classroom learning and then apply their skills in hands-on laboratory environments. A rewarding career awaits the student who pursues a degree in Food & Consumer Science at Sheridan College.

HORTICULTURE & SPORTS TURF MANAGEMENT

The results of trained horticulturists are all around us every day. Where an individual chooses to focus their energy determines which area of the horticultural field they will eventually work in. Horticulturalists are responsible for the parks we relax in, the golf and sports turfs we play on and the landscapes we enjoy. Much more than just “plant science”, horticultural students study the relationships between plants, soils, insects, animals and man. Unlike many agricultural fields that dictate living and working in a rural area, Hort. majors have the option of working literally anywhere in all of the fifty states. Presently, there are more job openings for Hort. majors than there are graduates.

NATURAL RESOURCES & RANCH LAND MANAGEMENT

SC’s Natural Resources & Ranch Mgmt. Program prepares students to transfer to bacheloriate programs and pursue careers in rangeland management. Sustainable management of our natural environment is necessary for ranching, agriculture, wildlife management, and enjoyment of our healthy and beautiful outdoor heritage. In t…his program students learn how to apply fundamental resource management skills. Students will have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field and participate in projects and practicums with area ranches, agencies, and industries.
