My philosophy of teaching and learning is closely described by saying “the great teacher is not the one who supplies the most facts, but the one in whose presence we become different people” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). I believe the best teachers are those who create a learning environment in which each student is inspired to become one who teaches. Students need to be encouraged to develop their own thoughts and ideas within the context of the subjects at issue, and to thereby grow in knowledge and understanding. The student who is involved in his or her own learning experience is one who is able to develop analytical thinking abilities. My classroom is student-centered, in which I endeavor to recognize, respect, and even celebrate individual student idiosyncrasies. I am passionate about teaching and learning and will always strive to make the learning experience both personal and transforming. I believe that effective and meaningful teaching and learning occurs when the instructor sees himself or herself as a partner in learning, a facilitator, and a guide. Education is an intellectual and spiritual journey and the great instructors are those who strive to assist the learner in becoming a competent, confident, and capable traveler.

Hello! Fitness has been a part of who I am for as long as I can remember.
I am originally from Cheyenne, WY where I attended East High School. During that time I participated in Volleyball, Soccer, and Basketball. After that, I attended college at Northern State University where I played collegiate soccer and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness Management. I decided to stay at Northern State to pursue a Master’s Degree in Health and Physical Education while I worked as a graduate assistant for the Women’s Soccer program. Since finishing my degree, I have worked in many different areas of the fitness world, including work as a personal trainer, teaching various fitness classes, and teaching health & wellness classes at Sheridan College. I am also an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Certified Personal Trainer.

My philosophy as a teacher is as follows: “as you think so shall you be”. This famous quote from William James, the Father of American Psychology, is exactly what I believe in regarding the field of Health and Wellness. I teach and work in this field because I truly believe that if I can motivate my students and teach them about proper health and wellness techniques, they can change their lives.

ACE-CPT – American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer since 1996

My philosophy of teaching is to motivate and inspire learners with enthusiasm and knowledge. I enjoy creating interactive learning experiences to encourage students to strive for better understanding. I believe that this quote says it best, “a teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops” Henry B. Adams. I enjoy the field of health and wellness because of the impact it has on our daily lives. I have seen this first-hand working in hospitals and in health club settings. I am extremely excited about teaching in the field and being able to positively impact students’ lives and careers.
