Cloud Peak Energy honored for commitment to NWCCD technical education

Cloud Peak Energy recently merited the Silver Star of Excellence award at the American Technical Education Association’s 51st annual conference in St. Paul, Minn.

Cloud Peak Energy, which operates the Spring Creek Coal Mine, among others, earned the national honor for its contributions to the technical programs at Sheridan College and Gillette College of the Northern Wyoming Community College District.

“Cloud Peak Energy’s support to the college district has been invaluable,” said Jed Jensen, Dean of Career and Technical Education at the NWCCD. “Their commitment and generosity have propelled our students and programs to new heights. We are extremely appreciative of all Cloud Peak Energy does for us.”

The Silver Star of Excellence award, sponsored by the ATEA and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), is presented “to a company that is supportive and committed to postsecondary technical education.”

Cloud Peak Energy has provided technical assistance and financial support and donated materials and equipment to the NWCCD. One of the largest and safest coal producers in the United States, Cloud Peak Energy has also provided internships, student co-ops, scholarships, advisory board memberships and jobs for graduates.

In addition to the award, Cloud Peak Energy will be inducted into the NTHS Educator-Industry Hall of Fame.
