SC to offer Vampires: Myth & Legend history course; registration opens April 7

Sheridan College will offer a new special topics history course, “Vampires: Myth & Legend,” for the fall 2014 semester.

Sheridan College Instructor and course designer, Rebecca L. Buhl, M.A., said the course is a study of the multiple cultural interpretations of vampiric myth and legends. Infamous figures such as Prince Vlad of Transylvania, better known as Vlad the Impaler, as well as Erzsébet Báthory, also known as Lady Dracula, are on the course agenda. The course will also consider the relationship between vampire folklore and religion and societal fears in relation to historic events, such as the early stages of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

“Vampires: Myth & Legend” is scheduled to meet every Thursday from 6-8:50 p.m. in room W167.

Registration for fall 2014 semester classes begins Monday, April 7. For more information, contact Sheridan College admissions at 674-6446, ext. 2000.
