Sheridan College Outdoor Club hosting annual spring community gear swap

The Sheridan College Outdoor Adventure Club will be hosting a community gear swap on Saturday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Whitney Academic Center Atrium.

Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. To sell used equipment, there will be a drop-off period Friday, April 4, from 4-8 p.m. Bring your gear to the Whitney Atrium; pay the entry fees and set a price for each of your items. If you do not know how much your item should be sold for the event volunteers can help you to set a price.

There is a cost of $2.00 per item people wish to sell, plus 10 percent of each sale will go to the SC Outdoor Adventure Club. After the sale, people can pick up unsold gear on Saturday, April 5, between 3-5 p.m. If the pick-up or drop-off times don’t fit your schedule, alternate arrangements can be made. Donations of equipment will be graciously accepted.

“The success of previous gear swaps has allowed the Outdoor Adventure Club to improve upon this activity and continue to provide a wonderful service to both the college campus and the community as a whole,” said Hannah Shafer, Outdoor Adventure Club president and SC student. “The gear swap is not only the primary source of funds for the club but is also an opportunity to show our commitment to our community.”

Club adviser Julie Davidson said: “An equipment swap has two benefits; it is a chance for folks to clean out their garages and gear closets of stuff they no longer use, or that their children have outgrown. Additionally, it allows people to shop for used equipment, which is great if their kids are still growing, they want to try a new activity, or they are on a tight budget.”
