Sheridan College chamber groups to perform at 2nd annual Prism Concert
Chamber music groups from Sheridan College will perform at the second annual Prism Concert on Friday, March 28, at the Whitney Presentation Hall on the Sheridan College campus. The event starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
More than 25 years ago, Eastman School of Music in New York initiated what it called a Prism Concert, a nonstop program that showcased many facets of its world-famous music program. It was an immediate success and continued for many years as a popular annual event at Eastman. The idea is to see a music program as if through a prism, one view spreading into a multitude of refractions.
The purpose of the concert at Sheridan College is to showcase SC’s chamber ensembles in a setting that provides the audience with a varied musical experience. This event continues to sustain a strong tradition of chamber music at Sheridan College.
The concert will include both faculty, students and community members performing a brief sampling of several different styles of music. The compositions date from the early 1600s to works written by the students at the college. The whirlwind musical review will be presented by the SC Brass Quintet, SC Percussion Ensemble, SC Music Technology Ensemble, The Westwinds Woodwind Quintet and percussion soloist and faculty member Jordan Wirth.
