SC to host food produce lecture

The Sheridan College Museum of Discovery Lecture Series will present “Navigating the Produce Department Gauntlet” on Friday, March 28, at 1 p.m. inside the Sheridan College Mohns Center. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Connie Fisk, a sustainable food systems instructor at Sheridan College, who teaches courses in human nutrition, food science, microbiology and horticulture.

The event is free and open to the public.

“Today’s produce department is a gauntlet – a confusing, sometimes dangerous maze that consumers need to figure out,” according to the event poster. “At the finish line is a healthy, nutrient dense diet, or for some just a tasty snack, but to get there you need to navigate through issues like conventional vs. organic, local vs. global, in-season, GMO, and a variety of storage requirements.

“In this lecture, Dr. Fisk will cover the issues you never knew you never knew about the produce department and explain how to maximize your produce purchasing power.”
