Gillette College Pronghorns earn national recognition for academics

Three Gillette College athletic teams garnered 2013-14 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors recently. The teams with the top cumulative GPA in each sport earn the distinction from the NJCAA.

The Gillette College men’s indoor track and field team collected the recognition, posting a cumulative GPA of 3.16. The GC women’s indoor track and field team, with a 3.32 GPA, also won Academic Team of the Year. The women’s outdoor track and field team hauled in the honor as well, with a 3.41 GPA.

“Our Gillette College student-athletes continue to thrive in their sports as well as in the classroom,” said Dr. Mark Englert, CEO and VP of Gillette College. “With the support of the community, our Pronghorns continue to merit national recognition. We are fortunate to have these outstanding students represent Gillette College and the state of Wyoming.”

In addition, several Pronghorn teams were awarded NJCAA All-Academic Team honors. The GC men’s cross country team (3.07 GPA), the women’s cross country team (3.22), the men’s half marathon team (3.11), the women’s half marathon team (3.39) and the men’s outdoor track and field team (3.16) each earned All-Academic status.

“Not only do our Gillette College coaches continue to develop the athletic strengths of our student-athletes,” Dr. Englert said, “they also stress the importance of excelling academically.”
