GC to host renowned composer Kirby Shaw

Gillette College to host renowned composer Kirby Shaw

Internationally renowned musical composer Kirby Shaw will visit Gillette College this week. He will hold a Scat Class—vocal improvisation with nonsense syllables—on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. (space is limited). He will also hold a Soul Clinic on Friday, Jan. 31, from 4-5 p.m., followed by a Rapid Fire Critique Session from 5-6 p.m. Shaw’s events will be held inside the Gillette College Tech Center.

Tickets are $15 per session for students and $20 for adults. It is $50 per choir to participate in the Rapid Fire Critique Session. Please RSVP for the Rapid Fire Critique Session. Contact Cheryl Ringer for more information at (307) 689-0518.

Shaw is a composer and arranger with nearly 3,000 choral compositions and arrangements in print. His music is sung around the world and has sold more than 20 million copies. Shaw has scatted with legends such as Al Jarreau, Bobby McFerrin and Jon Hendricks, who once told Shaw, “Man, you don’t make mistakes!” according to Shaw’s website.
