NWCCD offers final of 2012 mountain lectures

The Northern Wyoming Community College District is pleased to announce the third of three lectures in the 2012 Mountain Lecture Series held at the Spear-O-Wigwam Mountain Campus.  Bradford Brinton Director and Chief Curator, Ken Schuster, will be presenting “Boots, Brushes, and the Bighorns” this Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

Schuster has been Director and Chief Curator of the Bradford Brinton Memorial & Museum since Jan. 1, 1990.  During that time he has curated numerous exhibitions, studied and viewed an abundance of art and met many an artist.  Along the way, Ken has also learned a few things about art, history and the humility they can bestow upon us.

“A few of the most notable of artists we will discuss are Thomas Moran and Frederic Remington,” said Schuster.  “I’ll also touch upon other prominent artists who lived and/or worked in the area such as Edward Borein, Elling William “Bill” Gollings, Joseph Henry Sharp, Fra Dana and Hans Kleiber.”

“Ken is certainly an icon in our community and we feel exceptionally fortunate to host this presentation at Spear-O,” said NWCCD Learn Outdoors Coordinator, Julie Davidson.  “We hope that the community will take advantage of this final opportunity to enjoy the natural surroundings at our mountain campus, and learn a bit about some of the first 19th and early 20th century painters to depict what is now our daily backdrop, namely the Bighorn Mountains.”

All lectures in the series are free and open to the public.  Directions to Spear-O-Wigwam can be found at www.spearowigwam.com.
