NWCCD Veteran Benefits

The Northern Wyoming Community College District is proud and grateful to partner with the Marna M. Kuehne Foundation to support military and veterans in attaining their education goals.  The Kuehne Foundation is the primary funding source for the Veteran Services Office on each campus.

Marna M. Kuehne Disabled Veteran Scholarship

  • For honorably discharged, disabled veterans attending Sheridan or Gillette Colleges
  • Proof of service connected disability
  • Preference given to WY residents from Sheridan, Johnson, Campbell, Crook and Weston counties
  • Apply online from your MyNWCCD student account

Veteran Book Scholarship

  • For honorably discharged veterans attending Sheridan or Gillette Colleges
  • Available for veterans that no longer qualify for the GI Bill®
  • Apply online from your MyNWCCD student account

Tablet Computer and Audio Recording Pen Loan Program

  • For honorably discharged veterans attending Sheridan or Gillette Colleges
  • Tablets are available in limited quantities for those in financial need without a computer
  • Audio recording pen available in limited quantities for those who have difficulty with classroom concentration and note taking
  • Apply in person at Veterans Services Office

Day Care Assistance

  • For honorably discharged veterans attending Sheridan or Gillette Colleges
  • Allows students to place children in approved day care to attend classes
  • Supplements any other daycare aid a student receives

Veterans House Scholarship

  • Live in a veteran community in housing dedicated to military and veterans
  • Supplements the cost of room and board
  • Currently on available at Sheridan College

Department of Veterans Affairs

Chapter 33, Post 9/11 GI Bill®

  • Serve at least 90 days active duty
  • 36 months of benefits
  • Pays tuition/fees, monthly housing allowance, and book/supplies stipend
  • Only covers in-state tuition and fees
    • Veterans and dependents within 3 years of discharge receive in-state tuition
  • Expires 15 years from last discharge or separation
  • Can be transferred to dependents prior to separation

Chapter 30, Montgomery GI Bill® – Active Duty

  • 2+ years of active duty
  • 36 months of benefits
  • Expires 10 years from last discharge or separation
  • Provides monthly stipend, student responsible for all school expenses

Chapter 1606, Montgomery GI Bill® – Reserves & Guard

  • Members currently serving in the Reserves or Guard
  • 36 months of benefits
  • Provides monthly stipend, student responsible for all school expenses

Chapter 35, Dependents Education Assistance (DEA)

  • Provides education for spouses and dependent children
  • 36 months of benefits
  • Provides monthly stipend, student responsible for all school expenses

Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Service

Chapter 31, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment

  • Provides educational and vocational training for veterans with a service connected disability.
  • Pays tuition/fees, monthly housing allowance, and book/supplies stipend

Wyoming Veteran Benefits

WY National Guard Education Assistance Plan

  • Provides 100% tuition and mandatory fees, does not include course, lab or internet fees
  • Agree to 6 year term or completed 6 years
  • Agree to 2 years after last using tuition assistance
  • Can only be used for one degree program, includes Associates to Bachelors
  • Maintain 2.0 cumulative GPA
