Biology

It’s easy to understand the extensive research and job opportunities educated “biologists” have if you relate the job description to the way biologists classify all living things. Think: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.

Under the title “biologists” are thousands of specialized areas that all relate to the study of life. Biologists spend their lives dedicated to learning more about how life and living things function and interact. Biologists conduct scientific tests on everything from microscopic organisms living 20 miles below the surface of the ocean, to entire ecosystems in foreign countries, to the complex functions of the human body.

The Biology program at Sheridan College is designed to give students a broad background in the sciences with an emphasis in the biological or life sciences. The goal of the program is to provide students with knowledge in the biological sciences, chemistry, mathematics and general education electives to prepare them to transfer as juniors to a university in the specialty they choose. Sheridan College students have the opportunity to do biomedical research on campus, and to take field trips to the nearby Bighorn Mountains and Yellowstone National Park to conduct hands-on research on living organisms in their actual environment.
