Support Services
A wide variety of support services are available to students in the Transitional Services Programs including
Orientation to Sheridan College and the Transitional Services Programs
Tim Charles, ETSS Project Manager can be your first contact at Sheridan College and help you with admission, registration, application for financial aid, and other needs. The Testing and Career Services Office also has scheduled and unscheduled orientations to the Sheridan College.
Educational Advising
Advisors in the Testing and Career Services Office, individual instructors, and the Transitional Services Manager (Tim Charles) are all available for assistance with educational advising.
Career Testing and Advising
All Transitional Services Programs' students are strongly encouraged to participate in the career testing and advising offered through the Testing and Center Services Office in the Whitney Building. Recommended activities include
- Career Cruising (an on-line career exploration program-Contact the Career Center for login and password information at 307-674-6446, ext. 2001);
- Career Builder: (www.careerpath.com) offering a variety of links for job search, career information, and articles on companies;
- Career Key: (www.ncsu.edu/careerkey) providing a Holland personality inventory and how personalities relate to careers;
- Occupational Outlook Handbook: (www.bls.gov/oc/);
- Math and English Placement Exams - to register you in the correct level of math and English. These exams are $10 and required for all degree-seeking students. Call the Testing and Career Services Office for an appointment at 674-6446, ext. 2000.
Referral Services
Referral to college, community, state, and national resources to assist in student success whether for financial assistance, childcare, networking, job shadowing and placement, or other concerns. Advocacy in locating other resources to assist students is a major feature of all Transitional Services Programs.
Workshops and Peer Support Groups
Workshops and Monthly Meetings are held each semester to provide peer support, establish study groups, disseminate information, and encourage stress reduction. During these meetings, self-development workshop topics are also presented like "Building Self-Esteem," "Stretching an Already Stretched Dollar," "Presenting a Professional Image," Handling Conflict in the Work Place," and "Dealing with the Challenges of a Non-Traditional Career."
Job Seeking Skills Workshop
All students participate in the Job Seeking Skills Workshop focusing on the labor market, preparation for the job hunt, resumes, interviews, networking, self-marketing, and portfolios.
Newsletters
Three newsletters are published each semester containing resource guides, motivational materials, job seeking skills helps and hints, the latest in job market information, opportunities for advancement, health issues, stress relievers, information about the various Transitional Services Programs, and other items of vital interest to students.
