GEOL
1100 Physical Geology - 4 credits An introduction to the nature of the Earth and its landforms, this class includes the study of minerals, rocks, volcanoes, earthquakes, and plate tectonics. Field studies of local geological formations will complement classroom work in addition to an introduction to the Global Positioning Satellite system. (3 lecture, 1 lab/disc. hr./week plus at least 15 hours arranged field trips.)

GEOL 1200 Historical Geology - 4
credits This course covers the basic concepts of interpreting earth history, surveying the sequence of life based on fossil records, and the physical evolution of North America. There will also be an introduction to the Global Positioning Satellite system and some of the different applications of this system in geology. (3 lecture, 1 lab/disc. hr./week plus at least 15 hours of arranged field trips.) |
GEOL 2002 Field Methods of Paleontology - 1 credit
This course provides field instruction of basic techniques in paleontology. The course includes exploration, excavation, and documentation of vertebrate fossils in northern Wyoming, with special emphasis on late Jurassic Dinosaurs. Students will participate in locating new sites, learn techniques in excavation of dinosaur bones in a large bone quarry, and learn how to document the specimens found. * summer course only * (6 lecture, 25 field hours. /week)

GEOL 2490 Evolution and Extinction of Dinosaurs - 2 credits
A course covering the time of dinosaurs, some of the topics covered are the history of dinosaur discoveries in the Rocky Mountain West, paleoenvironments, paleoecology, paleobiology, and extinction theories. Field trips arranged. (2 lecture hrs./week)
