October 13, 2008 GC Rodeo Results at the Chadron State College Rodeo this weekend. After this last weekend in Chadron the Gillette College Girls team is now ranked number 8 in the Nation and the Guys number 20. This last cold, rainy, and windy weekend in Chadron proved to be a good one as the Men’s team tied with University of Wyoming for the Men’s title and the Girls finished a strong weekend in third place. This last performance has moved the men up to third 250 points out of first. On the girls side we stayed in a strong second position. The top two teams both Men and Women qualify for the CNFR. This weekend we will travel to Cheyenne to finish up the fall season. Thanks for all the e-mails and support. This weekend had some great results for our girls’ team as they nearly upset the UW girls’ team coming in a close second and worked their way back up in the standings to a current second place position in the Central Rocky Mountain Region. On the men’s side we had some bad luck finishing 5th and are currently ranked 5th in the regional standings, but just 200 pts out of the lead in a very tight race. We will be leaving for Lamar Colorado Thursday morning and will not return until Monday at noon.

New rodeo coach/recruiter joins Gillette College staff Gillette College welcomes its new rodeo coach and student recruiter, Will LaDuke with much anticipation. “We now have an athletics program at Gillette College,” Dean of Gillette College Dr. Paul Young said. “That’s another major milestone for this productive and active college. We’re all very excited to have Will join us and are even more excited to see what he will bring to the college.” LaDuke said he is excited to begin his position, and looks forward to the opportunity to incorporate being a student recruiter and rodeo coach. “It’s kind of a unique position,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to have the ability to start a program from the ground up. There are a lot of great things that the college has to offer, and I’m excited to get out there and bring that information to potential students.” LaDuke is a North Dakota native with a strong rodeo background, bringing to the new position a laundry list of achievements that includes College National Champion Rookie of the Year, College National Champion All Around Cowboy and the Great Plains Region Champion Calf Roper and Champion All Around Cowboy. LaDuke said he’d like to have a full rodeo team of six men and four women in place to compete beginning in the fall of 2007. The team, he said, will compete in “everything from bull riding to goat tying”. “We want to have a team that doesn’t just focus on one event,” LaDuke said. “If you put all your eggs in one basket it kind of defeats the purpose. We want students to compete in all events.” In the meantime, LaDuke said he will be working on adjusting to his new position as a recruiter and will work to find a facility in Gillette to hold rodeo practices. LaDuke’s other credentials include being a qualifier in the National High School Finals Rodeo in Calf Roping and Team Roping; being a Reserve College National Champion Calf Roper; being a Badlands Professional Rodeo Finals Champion Roper; being a Professional Rodeo Cowboy/Performance Horse Trainer; LaDuke holds a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education from North Dakota State University and has coached the FFA South Dakota State Champion Horse and Livestock Judging Teams. For more information, contact LaDuke at (307) 689-5806, or at wladuke@sheridan.edu.
