Spear-O Mountain Campus

Spear-O Mountain Campus is nestled in the Bighorn National Forest at 8,300 ft., a mere 5,000 ft. below the highest peak in the Bighorn Mountains. Spear-O’s main lodge houses a dining hall, kitchen, library, and large sitting area with a 7 ft. fireplace. The 16-acre campus also has 11 cabins, classroom/meeting room, horse corrals, and numerous out buildings. Additionally, Spear-O maintains a backcountry field station at Beaver Lakes, which is a day’s horseback ride or hike from the Mountain Campus.

Opportunities to learn outdoors

Throughout the warmer months, Spear-O Mountain Campus is abuzz with activities and outdoor learning. Students and community members can register for classes ranging from rock climbing and multiple-night horse-pack trips to Wilderness First Responder courses from the National Outdoor Leadership School and field-based environmental science for high school students. Visit www.spearowigwam.com for more information.

Environmental research space in the wilderness

The Bighorn Mountains are an exceptional system for study, largely because the mountains offer protected wilderness and geographically-isolated populations. As a part of the Mountain Campus, the Beaver Lakes Field Station is a remote location in close proximity to the surrounding Cloud Peak Wilderness Area and the associated high alpine areas. Researchers from around the nation are invited to establish research activities at the field station.

Idyllic setting for your retreat

Bring your company into the great outdoors; use this historic ranch as a venue for your next retreat or training session. Fully furnished, modern cabins with 1-3 beds each provide access to canoeing, hiking, fly fishing, and mountain biking. The Mountain Campus also includes three meeting spaces, and a classroom setting with projector and whiteboard.
